Mumbai Indians delivered a commanding performance to defeat Delhi Capitals by 50 runs in Match 3 of the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2026, played on January 10, 2026, at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai. This was Mumbai’s first win of the season after a narrow loss to Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the opener.

Delhi Capitals, under new captain Jemimah Rodrigues, won the toss and elected to bowl first.

Mumbai Indians Innings: 195/4 (20 overs)

Mumbai recovered strongly after an early setback (Amelia Kerr out for a golden duck). A solid partnership between Nat Sciver-Brunt (70 off 46 balls, including 13 fours) and G Kamalini steadied the ship.

Captain Harmanpreet Kaur then took charge with an unbeaten 74 off 42 balls (8 fours, 3 sixes), including a explosive 19-run final over against Shree Charani. This pushed Mumbai close to 200.

For Delhi, Nandani Sharma was the pick of the bowlers with 2/26.

Delhi Capitals Innings: 145 all out (19 overs)

Chasing 196, Delhi collapsed early, slumping to 33/4 in the powerplay. Nicola Carey struck with early wickets, including Shafali Verma and Laura Wolvaardt.

Chinelle Henry offered resistance with a fighting 56 off 33 balls, but no other batter crossed 30. Amelia Kerr (3/24) and Nicola Carey (3/37) ripped through the middle order, while Nat Sciver-Brunt chipped in with 2 wickets.

Delhi were bowled out in the 19th over, falling 50 runs short.

Player of the Match

Harmanpreet Kaur (74* off 42 balls) was named Player of the Match for her dominant captain’s knock and leadership in the bounce-back win.

Harmanpreet said post-match: “It was a great game for us. We were disappointed in the last game but bounced back well as a team. I had the same positive mindset today.”

This emphatic victory showcased Mumbai’s all-round strength — explosive batting from their experienced duo and a disciplined bowling attack — putting the defending champions firmly back in contention for WPL 2026!
