ICC confirm Women’s T20 World Cup expansion to 16 teams in 2030

-ICC Expands Women’s T20 World Cup, Reaffirms Commitment to Women’s Cricket

Colombo, Sri Lanka: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has announced a significant expansion of the Women’s T20 World Cup to 16 teams in 2030, marking a major step forward in its pursuit of gender equality in cricket.

The decision was made at the ICC Board meeting, where the governing body reiterated its dedication to growing women’s cricket globally. The tournament, which currently features 10 teams, will increase to 12 in the 2026 edition before reaching 16 teams in 2030.

The ICC also confirmed the qualification cutoff date for the 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup as October 31, 2024.

In other key decisions, the ICC approved the allocation of eight regional qualifying spots for the Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. The tournament will now feature two qualifiers each from Africa and Europe, one from the Americas, and three from a combined Asia and East Asia Pacific regional final.

The ICC Annual Conference, held in Colombo, concluded with various other decisions, including the appointment of Paul Reiffel to the ICC Men’s Cricket Committee as an elite panel umpire and Richie Richardson as the elite panel referee on the committee.

The conference also addressed the performance of USA Cricket and Cricket Chile, placing both on a 12-month notice period to improve their governance and administrative structures.
