India Women Crush West Indies by 211 Runs in First ODI, Take 1-0 Series Lead

The Indian women’s cricket team began their three-match home ODI series against the West Indies with a resounding victory, defeating them by a massive 211-run margin in the first match.

Match Summary:

Batting first after losing the toss, India posted a formidable total of 314/9, thanks to Smriti Mandhana’s 91-run innings. In response, the West Indies were bowled out for just 103 runs in 26.2 overs. Renuka Thakur was the standout bowler for India, taking 5 wickets for 29 runs in her 10 overs. For West Indies, Afy Fletcher remained not out on 24, while Shemaine Campbelle contributed 21 runs.

  • Smriti Mandhana continued her excellent form, scoring 91 runs off 102 balls, including 13 fours. This was her fifth consecutive half-century (across T20s and ODIs).

  • Later contributions from Harleen Deol (44 off 50 balls), Harmanpreet Kaur (34 off 23 balls), Richa Ghosh (26 off 12 balls), and Jemimah Rodrigues (31 off 19 balls) accelerated the scoring, pushing India past the 300-run mark.
  • West Indies bowler Zaida James was the most successful bowler, taking 5 wickets for 45 runs in her 8 overs. India lost wickets quickly in the final overs, which hampered their scoring rate slightly.

  • Pratica Rawal, making her ODI debut, opened the batting with Mandhana. She received a reprieve early in her innings when she was dropped on 3.
