Bhubaneswar, August 11 (Sports Desk)
Olympian Annu Rani dominated the women’s javelin throw event at the Indian Open 2025 World Athletics Bronze Level Continental Tour held at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, on Sunday, securing the title with a remarkable throw of 62.01m. Sri Lanka’s N.D.L. Hatarabag Leka took second place with 56.27m, while Deepika claimed third with 54.20m.
Annu Rani, aged 32, showcased her resurgence by achieving two throws over 60m in Bhubaneswar, including a 61.01m effort in her penultimate attempt. This performance follows her recent success in Poland, where she recorded a 62.59m throw—her best in nearly two years and her first over 60m in over a year.
In the men’s javelin throw, Sri Lanka’s Rumesh Pathirage emerged victorious with an 86.50m throw, surpassing the World Championships qualifying standard of 85.50m. India’s Shivam Lohakare secured second place with 80.73m, followed by another Sri Lankan, Sumeda J Ranasinghe, with 80.65m. Sachin Yadav (79.80m) and Yashvir Singh (78.53m) finished fifth and sixth, respectively.

Lokesh Sathyanathan took third place with 7.85m. Sreeshankar, on his comeback trail after an injury, extended his winning streak to four, following victories in Pune (8.05m), Portugal (7.75m), and the Qosanov Memorial in Almaty (7.94m).
This event marked India’s first-ever hosting of a World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze Level meet, a significant platform for athletes to earn ranking points for the upcoming World Athletics Championships in Tokyo. Organized by World Athletics, the Continental Tour is the second tier of global track and field competitions, following the elite Diamond League.
