The official countdown to the Los Angeles 2028 (LA28) Olympic and Paralympic Games has begun with the confirmation of the competition dates. The Olympic Games will be held from July 14 to 30, 2028, followed by the Paralympic Games from August 15 to 27.
Five-time Olympic medalist and LA28 Chief Athlete Officer Janet Evans stated that the LA28 Games will be unique, showcasing Southern California’s top-tier stadiums and rich culture to athletes and fans. She emphasized that this milestone makes the Games a tangible goal for athletes training for LA28 and for their supporters.

Nicole Hoevertsz, Chair of the International Olympic Committee (IOC)’s LA28 Coordination Commission, who accompanied IOC President Thomas Bach on a visit to Los Angeles, highlighted the city’s special connection to sports and the positive community impact the Games are already having. She added that confirming the dates provides Los Angeles with a clear deadline to prepare to welcome the world.
These dates mark Los Angeles’s third time hosting the Olympic Games (after 1932 and 1984) and its first time hosting the Paralympic Games.

The LA28 Games will utilize existing, world-class venues throughout the Los Angeles area, ensuring a sustainable and cost-effective event. The Games will feature over 3,000 hours of live sport across 800 events in more than 40 sports, with approximately 15,000 athletes expected to compete.
