NATIONAL HEALTH MISSION WORKERS FACE A BLEAK “RAKHI” WITHOUT SALARIES: HARPAL SODHI
-STRUGGLING WITH EMPTY POCKETS, NHM EMPLOYEES FACE HARDSHIP
Patiala, August 8
As the festive season begins in August, the social festival of Raksha Bandhan, celebrating the bond between brothers and sisters, takes center stage. Every brother aspires to shower their sisters with love and gifts on this day. However, employees of the National Health Mission (NHM) under the Punjab Health Department are facing severe financial distress due to delayed salaries, casting a shadow over their celebrations. Male NHM employees, unable to openly discuss their financial struggles, are forced to take loans or borrow money to observe Raksha Bandhan.

Addressing the press, NHM leader Harpal Singh Sodhi revealed that the issue of delayed salaries has emerged specifically during the tenure of the current government. Reliable sources indicate that salaries could be delayed by an additional two months, potentially triggering a significant financial crisis for NHM employees’ households. Already working on low wages, these employees face worsening conditions without timely salary payments. Sodhi noted that previous governments never delayed salaries and even increased them, but the current Aam Aadmi Party government, despite over three and a half years in power, has neither raised salaries nor ensured their timely disbursement.
NHM employees have appealed to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to issue directives to the Health Department for prompt salary payments and to increase their current wages. Present at the occasion were Dr. Divjot, Ritika Grover, Supna Rani, Dinesh Garg, Amit Jain, Monica, Jasbir Kaur, Manpreet Kaur, Tripta, Harish Kumar, Lovlinder Singh, Gurdev Singh, Manpreet Kaur, Vijender, and other employees.
