Established in 1954, the Janusz Kusociński Memorial is one of the oldest continuously hosted athletics events in Poland and Europe. Held in Chorzów, the meet attracts top global talent, and this year will feature a strong javelin field. Neeraj will face tough competition from Paris 2024 Olympic bronze medallist and two-time World Champion Anderson Peters of Grenada, former European Champion Julian Weber of Germany, and several local Polish athletes.
Neeraj’s 2025 Season So Far
The Janusz Kusociński Memorial will mark Neeraj Chopra’s third competition of the 2025 season. The 27-year-old Indian athlete began his season at the Potch Invitational Track event in Potchefstroom, South Africa, last month, where he led a six-man field with a throw of 84.52m. His next event is the Doha Diamond League on May 16, where he will be joined by fellow Indian javelin thrower and Asian Games silver medallist Kishore Jena.
Upcoming Events
Following the Poland meet, Neeraj is also scheduled to compete at the Ostrava Golden Spike meet in Czechia on June 24. As the reigning World Champion, he will later defend his title at the World Championships in Tokyo in September 2025.
Significance of the Event
The Janusz Kusociński Memorial offers Neeraj an opportunity to test his form against elite competitors early in the season, setting the tone for his upcoming challenges. His participation underscores his commitment to maintaining a competitive edge on the global stage, further solidifying his status as one of India’s greatest athletes.
