New Delhi to Host Para Athletics World Championships 2025

New Delhi/Patiala, 20 December (Sports Desk)

India will host the Para Athletics World Championships for the first time in 2025. The event, the world’s largest single para sport competition, will be held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi from September 26 to October 5.

This will be the 12th edition of the championships and the fourth time it has been held in Asia, following Doha 2015, Dubai 2019, and Kobe 2024.

In addition to the World Championships, New Delhi will also host a World Para Athletics Grand Prix for the first time, scheduled for March 11-13, 2025, also at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.

Paul Fitzgerald, Head of World Para Athletics, expressed his delight at the announcement, noting that the 2025 World Championships will be the largest international para sport event ever held in India. He emphasized the opportunity this presents for growing the sport, its fanbase, and positively impacting societal perceptions of people with disabilities in India.

Fitzgerald also highlighted India’s significant progress in para athletics over the past decade, citing their improved medal count at the World Championships, from two silver medals in Doha 2015 to 17 medals (including six gold) in Kobe earlier this year.

The last World Championships in Kobe, Japan, saw over 1,000 athletes from more than 100 countries participate. China topped the medal table, while India achieved a top-six finish for the first time.   Sources and related content
