The 2nd RGNUL National Intellectual Property Law Moot Court Competition, 2026 was successfully organized by the Centre for Innovation and Intellectual Property Rights (CIIPR) and the Incubation and Knowledge Society (IKS) at Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law (RGNUL), Patiala, in collaboration with S.S. Rana & Co.
This event offered law students a valuable platform to engage in intellectual property litigation and advocacy, while sharpening their research, analytical, and oral advocacy skills.
The competition began with an inaugural session and the draw of lots for the Preliminary Rounds on March 9, 2026. It featured distinguished guest assessors and judges, including:
- Nihit Nagpal, Associate Partner, S.S. Rana & Co.
- Mukesh Choudhary, Examiner of Trademarks, GI and Copyright, CGPDTM, DPIIT.
- K. S. Kardam, Former Senior Joint Controller of Patents and Designs, Indian Patent Office.
These experts judged the final rounds and provided insightful perspectives on the evolving field of intellectual property law. The Semi-Final rounds were adjudged by respected practitioners and academicians, including Rishabh Rao, Anureet Budwal, Kriti Priyadarshini Litoria, Charanpreet Singh, and others.

The competition saw enthusiastic participation, with over 50 teams from prestigious law schools across India registering. After the memorial evaluation round, the top 16 teams advanced to the Preliminary Rounds on March 9. The top four teams then progressed to the Semi-Final and Final Rounds on March 10.
Participants delivered compelling pleadings throughout the oral rounds, showcasing outstanding advocacy, research, and analytical abilities while tackling complex IP law issues.
Awards and Recognitions:
- Best Speaker Award: Akanksha Jacky (School of Law, UPES, Dehradun).
- Best Memorial Award: Team from O.P. Jindal Global University.
- Winning Team: National Law University, Odisha.
- Runners-Up: Narsee Monjee Institute of Management Studies (NMIMS), Mumbai.
The event concluded with a valedictory ceremony, where winners received trophies, cash prizes, and internship opportunities:
- Winners: Trophy, INR 12,000 cash prize, and internship with S.S. Rana & Co.
- Runners-Up: Trophy, INR 8,000 cash prize, and internship with SpicyIP.
- Best Speaker and Best Memorial awards: INR 5,000 cash prize each.
The competition reinforced RGNUL’s dedication to academic excellence and hands-on legal training, while giving students a meaningful chance to interact with leading professionals in intellectual property law.
