Nortje and Ngidi Return to Bolster South Africa’s Champions Trophy Squad

Patiala, 13 January (Sports Desk)

South Africa has announced its 15-player squad for the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025, with Temba Bavuma leading the charge.

The Proteas, aiming to build on their recent strong performances, including reaching the semi-final of the 2023 Men’s Cricket World Cup and the final of the upcoming World Test Championship, receive a significant boost with the return of pace spearheads Anrich Nortje and Lungi Ngidi.

This tournament marks Nortje’s return to ODI cricket, his first 50-over appearance since September 2023. He has been sidelined due to a back stress fracture, which caused him to miss the 2023 World Cup and South Africa’s home summer. Lungi Ngidi also returns to international cricket after recovering from a groin injury sustained in October 2024.

South Africa has largely retained the core of the team that reached the 2023 World Cup semi-finals, with 10 of the 15 players returning for the Champions Trophy. New additions to the squad include Tony de Zorzi, Ryan Rickelton, Tristan Stubbs, and Wiaan Mulder, all set to make their debut at a 50-over ICC event. Nortje’s inclusion is also a key change from the World Cup squad.
