New Delhi, India – May 31,

In a proud moment for Indian sports, Shri Harvinder Singh has been conferred the Padma Shri, India’s fourth-highest civilian honor, for his remarkable achievements in para-archery on the global stage.

Under the mentorship of Dronacharya Awardee Coach Jiwanjot Singh Teja, Harvinder has become a pioneer in Indian para-archery. Overcoming physical challenges since childhood, he began his archery journey in 2012 and achieved historic milestones, including India’s first para-archery gold at the 2018 Asian Para Games, a bronze at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics, and a gold in the Men’s Individual Recurve (Open) at the 2024 Paris Paralympics.

Coach Jiwanjot Singh Teja expressed his pride, stating:
“Harvinder’s rise from a village in Haryana to global acclaim is a testament to his resilience and dedication. It’s an honor to have guided him to become a world-class athlete.”

Harvinder’s success owes much to his support system. Punjabi University, Patiala, fostered his academic and athletic growth, where he completed a Master’s in Economics and is now pursuing a Ph.D. The university provided a nurturing environment to balance education and sports. Assistant Coach Gaurav Sharma also played a crucial role, offering technical expertise and emotional support throughout Harvinder’s career.

Previously honored with the Arjuna Award (2021) and Haryana’s Bhim Award (2022), Harvinder’s Padma Shri underscores his transformative impact on para-sports, inspiring countless young athletes across India.
