Indian javelin throw ace Neeraj Chpora managed to fend off Germany’s Julian Weber to win the men’s javelin throw competition at the Paris Diamond League 2025 on Friday.

Two-time Olympic medallist Neeraj Chopra won the title with a best effort of 88.16m achieved with his first throw of the night at the Stade Sébastien Charléty. Weber finished second with 87.88m – also his opening act.

Luiz Maurício da Silva of Brazil finished third with a new South American record of 86.62m. Former world champion and Paris 2024 Olympics bronze medallist Anderson Peters of Grenada came in fifth with 80.29m.

Keshorn Walcott of Trinidad and Tobago, the London 2012 Olympic champion, was fourth with 81.66m

This is the first time this season that Neeraj has been able to get the better of Weber.

The two’s first meeting of the year played out at the Doha Diamond League last month, where Weber nicked Neeraj with a personal best throw of 91.06m with his final attempt of the night.

The Indian javelin thrower had earlier breached the elusive 90m mark with a 90.23m throw and reset the Indian national record  in Doha.

Weber also finished first ahead of Neeraj at the Janusz Kusocinski Memorial athletics meet in Poland last month.

Neeraj Chopra won the Potch Invitational Meet in Potchefstroom, South Africa, back in April, but Weber was not a part of that athleics meet.

The reigning javelin throw world champion, Neeraj Chopra came out with a purpose at the Paris Diamond League and logged a neat 88.16m with his very first effort of the night.

The 27-year-old followed up with an 85.10m throw in his second attempt and fouled his next three before finishing off with an 82.89m.

The Paris leg was the eighth of the 15 meetings that make up the Diamond League 2025 season, which will culminate with a two-day final in Zurich, Switzerland in August.

Neeraj Chopra was competing at the Paris Diamond League after eight long years. He had finished eighth in 2017 with a best throw of 84.67m.
