Patiala District Faces Vehicle Blacklisting Over Unpaid Challans

Patiala, March 27:
Approximately 200 vehicles in Patiala district have had challans pending for over 90 days, with their owners yet to settle the fines. As a result, the process to blacklist these vehicles will soon begin, according to Naman Markan, the Regional Transport Officer of Patiala.

RTO Naman Markan elaborated that challans are issued statewide for violations of the Motor Vehicles Act 1988. If the fines remain unpaid within 90 days, as stipulated under Rule 167 of the Central Motor Vehicles Rules 1989, the department proceeds to blacklist the vehicles. He highlighted that blacklisting prevents owners from accessing government services, including insurance, pollution checks, and registration.

Markan urged the public to promptly submit their outstanding challan payments at the Regional Transport Officer’s office in Patiala, cautioning that non-compliance would lead to their vehicles being blacklisted.

Furthermore, RTO Naman Markan encouraged individuals who have not yet received printed copies of their licenses or vehicle registration certificates (RCs) to download them via DigiLocker. He explained that technical issues have delayed the printing of RCs and licenses, advising people to secure soft copies from the official website and store them in their DigiLocker accounts. These digital documents are fully recognized, and printed versions will be made available to the public in due course.
