In a major development in the crackdown on an international cyber fraud syndicate in Phagwara, Kapurthala Police arrested another suspect, Pawan from Bikaner, Rajasthan, recovering ₹2.05 crore in hawala money. This brings the total arrests to 39 and the total recovered amount to ₹2.15 crore, announced Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav on Tuesday.
Previously, Kapurthala Police dismantled a significant cyber fraud operation in Phagwara targeting individuals in the USA and Canada with fake software solutions, arresting 38 suspects and seizing 40 laptops, 67 mobile phones, and ₹10 lakh in cash.

DGP Yadav revealed that a Ludhiana-based hawala operator has been identified, and police teams are conducting raids to apprehend him. Preliminary investigations indicate that transactions were primarily conducted through Bitcoin and hawala channels.
Further investigations are ongoing to uncover the full extent of the syndicate’s network.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Kapurthala Gaurav Toora shared that, based on human intelligence and technical investigations, police identified the involvement of a Ludhiana-based individual. Acting promptly, teams led by SP Investigation Prabhjot Singh Virk, DSP Detective Parminder Singh, CIA Incharge Jarnail Singh, and SHO Cyber Crime Amandeep Kaur raided the hawala operator’s premises in Ludhiana, arresting Pawan and recovering ₹2.05 crore in cash.
The racket was operated by Amrinder Singh alias Sabhi Tohri, who leased the premises in Phagwara and is linked to Suraj from Delhi, who is further connected to a suspect named Shen from Kolkata.
A case has been registered under FIR No. 14 dated September 19, 2025, under sections 111, 318(4), and 61(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and sections 66C and 66D of the Information Technology Act at the Cyber Crime Police Station, Kapurthala.
