Culprits targeted high-value GUC1 cards, executing thefts in under two minutes

In a significant operation targeting the theft of critical 5G telecom infrastructure belonging to Bharti Airtel Limited, Punjab Police has arrested 61 individuals and registered 95 First Information Reports (FIRs) across the state, averting major disruptions to essential telecom services.
Following reports of thefts involving high-value 5G equipment, Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav ordered the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT). Chaired by DIG Rajpal Sandhu, the SIT collaborated closely with district police units to apprehend the culprits and recover substantial quantities of stolen equipment.
SIT Chairman DIG Rajpal Sandhu revealed that the accused specifically targeted high-value GUC1 Cards (Base Band Units), crucial for 4G and 5G signal transmission. “These thefts were executed with precision, completed in under two minutes, after which the perpetrators fled,” he stated.
Leveraging technical surveillance and human intelligence, Punjab Police successfully dismantled the networks behind these thefts. “Investigations are ongoing to trace forward and backward linkages and uncover the entire network,” said DIG Sandhu, noting that the SIT is also probing potential insider involvement.
