Ahead of the November 11 bye-election for the 021-Tarn Taran Assembly Constituency, the first rehearsal for polling staff was successfully held at Mai Bhago College of Nursing, Piddi (Tarn Taran).
Joint Chief Electoral Officer, Punjab, Sakatar Singh Bal (PCS) visited the venue to inspect arrangements and oversee the training. He was accompanied by Returning Officer-cum-SDM Gurmeet Singh and other officials.
Around 1,200 polling personnel received hands-on training from Master Trainers on operating EVMs, VVPATs, and Control Units, along with the complete polling-day protocol. A mock poll was conducted for Presiding Officers (PROs), who cast at least five votes per candidate (including NOTA), totaling nearly 100 mock votes to showcase EVM-VVPAT functionality. PROs expressed complete confidence in the machines’ reliability and transparency.
Addressing the staff, Sakatar Singh Bal urged absolute honesty, dedication, and diligence in election duties. He stressed thorough understanding of every procedure to ensure error-free polling, warning that even minor lapses would not be tolerated.

Returning Officer Gurmeet Singh announced the next rehearsal on November 2 and confirmed that all preparations are complete for a free, fair, and peaceful bye-election. He appealed to voters to cast their votes fearlessly and without any inducement or pressure.
