Program on ‘Management and Prevention of Animal Bites’ Held at PU Patiala

Punjabi University’s Bhai Ghanaiya Health Center, in collaboration with Government Medical College and Rajindra Hospital, Patiala, organized a program on ‘Management and Prevention of Animal Bites’ on Thursday, June 26, 2025.

  • Expert Speaker: Dr. Priya Sahni from the Department of Community Medicine, Government Medical College, Patiala, served as the subject expert. She discussed the risks of animal bites, preventive measures, and management strategies. Dr. Sahni provided detailed insights into identifying symptoms of rabid dogs and the role of rabies vaccines in treatment.
  • Vice Chancellor’s Address: Dr. Jagdeep Singh, Vice Chancellor of Punjabi University, emphasized the university’s commitment to addressing this issue. “Punjabi University takes the prevention of such incidents on campus very seriously. Today’s program is a proactive step toward finding solutions,” he stated in his presidential address.
  • Special Guest: Dr. Dimple Sahni, Head of the ENT Department, Government Medical College, attended as a special guest.
  • Welcome Address: Dr. Regina Maini, Senior Medical Officer at the university, highlighted the necessity of the program, especially in light of recent dog bite incidents on campus. She noted that the program was organized on the Vice Chancellor’s instructions to address this concern.
  • Dean’s Remarks: Dr. Narinder Kaur Multani, Dean of Academic Affairs, spoke about the rising incidents of dog bites and the resulting anxiety among campus residents. She underscored the importance of such awareness programs in tackling the issue.
  • Registrar’s Statement: Dr. Sanjeev Puri, Registrar, informed that the university is coordinating with the Patiala District Administration to find a sustainable solution to the problem.
