PSPCL Cracks Down on Power Theft, Unearths Thousands of Cases

Patiala, August 10

The Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) has intensified its crackdown on power theft, unauthorized use of electricity (UUE), and unauthorized extension of load (UE) with a massive checking drive across the state.

The operation, conducted on Saturday under the directives of Power Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO, yielded significant results. A total of 26,599 power connections were inspected, leading to the detection of 1,149 theft cases, 219 UUE cases, and 227 UE cases. The PSPCL recovered a substantial amount of Rs. 483.51 lakh from the offenders.

PSPCL Director (Distribution) Er. DPS Grewal highlighted the involvement of senior officials, including Chief Engineers, Executive Engineers, and Sub-Divisional Officers, in the surprise checks. He urged consumers to cooperate with the corporation by reporting any instances of power theft in their areas.

The power utility has vowed to continue these drives to curb electricity theft and ensure fair billing for all consumers.

Breakdown of Cases by Zone:

  • North Zone: 87 theft cases, 50 UUE cases
  • South Zone: 269 theft cases
  • Border Zone: 288 theft cases, 48 UUE cases
  • Central Zone: 173 theft cases, 34 UUE cases, 114 UE cases
  • West Zone: 332 theft cases, 87 UUE cases, 113 UE cases
