Punjab Aims for Sports Supremacy Again – CM & VC Hold Key Strategy Meeting

Chandigarh/Patiala, February 11

Dr. Pushpinder Singh Gill, Vice Chancellor of Maharaja Bhupinder Singh Punjab Sports University (MBSPSU), Patiala, today called on Punjab Chief Minister  Bhagwant Mann at his office in Chandigarh. The meeting featured an in-depth and constructive discussion on the future roadmap for sports development across the state.

The Chief Minister underscored the crucial role sports can play in building a progressive, disciplined, and healthy society. He directed Dr. Gill to lead a comprehensive transformation in Punjab’s sports ecosystem by:

  • Strengthening grassroots-level structures
  • Identifying and nurturing young talent at an early age
  • Providing systematic, high-quality training and mentorship

CM Mann emphasized that increasing youth participation in sports is vital—not only to produce future champions but also to channel their energy positively, steering them away from negative influences, drug abuse, and other societal challenges.

Reaffirming the Punjab government’s strong commitment to reviving and modernizing the sports landscape, the Chief Minister assured complete support for:

  • Developing world-class infrastructure
  • Establishing state-of-the-art training facilities
  • Introducing scientific and advanced coaching methodologies

He reiterated the vision of restoring Punjab to its former glory as a dominant force in Indian and international sports, capable of consistently producing world-class athletes.
