The 13th National Gatka Championship 2025, organized by the National Gatka Association of India (NGAI), concluded in Bhilai, Chhattisgarh, after three days of thrilling competition and vibrant displays of India’s traditional martial heritage. Punjab emerged as the overall champion, while Chhattisgarh captivated the audience with their passionate and disciplined performances, finishing as runners-up through determination, skill, and teamwork.
In the boys’ category, Punjab clinched the top position with superior technique and agility, followed by Chhattisgarh in second place. Haryana and Uttarakhand shared third place. In the girls’ category, Chhattisgarh’s team shone brightly, securing first place, while Chandigarh finished second and Punjab and Haryana shared the third position.
Chhattisgarh’s Minister for Education and Rural Industries, Gajendra Yadav, attended the closing ceremony as the chief guest and presented medals and certificates to the winners. In his address, the Minister emphasized that Gatka is more than a sport—it is a proud part of India’s martial legacy that promotes discipline, courage, and spiritual strength. He announced that the Chhattisgarh government will introduce Gatka training in schools, colleges, and universities to inspire the youth and preserve this historic art form.

Vaishali Nagar MLA Rikesh Sen lauded the dedication and sportsmanship of the players, noting that the teamwork and respect demonstrated by Gatka athletes serve as a model for young sportspersons nationwide. He encouraged Chhattisgarh’s youth to embrace Gatka and bring glory to the state.
The event witnessed the presence of several distinguished guests, including Manish Pandey, Purushottam Dewangan, Harjeet Singh Grewal (President, NGAI), Inderjeet Singh Chhotu (Executive Member, Asian Gatka Federation & President, New Gatka Sports Association, Chhattisgarh), Jaswant Singh (General Secretary), and Jasbir Singh Chahal (President, Chhattisgarh Sikh Panchayat).
NGAI President Harjeet Singh Grewal praised the participants for their exemplary performances and reiterated the organization’s commitment to expanding Gatka’s reach nationwide and securing its recognition on international platforms.
