The Punjab Government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, has released Rs. 13.16 crore for the welfare of backward classes and economically weaker sections (BC and EWS) in the state. This financial assistance is being provided through the Ashirwad Scheme.
Social Justice, Empowerment, and Minorities Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur announced the release of funds, stating that 2581 beneficiaries from 19 districts have been covered. The scheme offers financial aid of up to Rs. 51,000 for the marriages of girls from low-income families.

To be eligible for the Ashirwad Scheme, applicants must be permanent residents of Punjab, belong to Scheduled Castes, Backward Classes, or other economically weaker sections, and have an annual income below Rs. 32,790. The scheme allows benefits for up to two daughters per eligible family.
Dr. Kaur emphasized the Punjab Government’s commitment to the welfare of these marginalized communities and stated that the financial assistance is being disbursed directly into the bank accounts of the beneficiaries.
