Punjab Government Releases Rs. 30.35 Crores to 5,951 SC Beneficiaries Under Ashirwad Scheme

Chandigarh, January 18

The Punjab Government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, has released Rs. 30.35 crores to 5,951 beneficiaries belonging to the Scheduled Castes under the Ashirwad Scheme during the current financial year (2024-25).

Social Justice, Empowerment and Minorities Minister Dr. Baljit Kaur announced that the funds have been sanctioned to address pending applications received through the Ashirwad Portal for the years 2023-24 and 2024-25. Beneficiaries from across the state, including Barnala, Bathinda, Faridkot, Ferozepur, Fatehgarh Sahib, Fazilka, Hoshiarpur, Jalandhar, Mansa, Sri Muktsar Sahib, Patiala, Rupnagar, SAS Nagar, SBS Nagar, Sangrur, and Malerkotla, have been covered under this initiative.

The Ashirwad Scheme provides financial assistance of Rs. 51,000 for the marriage of daughters from low-income families. Eligibility criteria include being a permanent resident of Punjab and belonging to Scheduled Castes, Backward Classes, or economically weaker sections with an annual income below Rs. 32,790. Each eligible family can avail of this benefit for up to two daughters.

Dr. Baljit Kaur emphasized that the financial aid is directly transferred to the beneficiaries’ bank accounts, ensuring transparency and efficiency. She reiterated the Punjab Government’s commitment to the welfare of Scheduled Castes, Backward Classes, and economically weaker sections under the leadership of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.
