Probe Uncovers Pakistan-Based Smugglers Aiming to Disrupt Peace in Punjab: DGP Gaurav Yadav
More Arrests and Recoveries Expected Soon: CP Amritsar Gurpreet Bhullar
Chandigarh/Amritsar, August 26
In line with Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s directive to ensure a safe and secure Punjab, the Amritsar Commissionerate Police has dismantled a cross-border arms smuggling racket, arresting one individual and recovering five sophisticated 9MM Glock pistols along with four magazines, announced Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav on Tuesday.
The arrested individual, Amit Singh from Guru Ki Wadali, Chheharta, Amritsar, was also found in possession of a black Hero Splendor motorcycle used for delivering the smuggled consignments, which has been impounded by the police.
DGP Gaurav Yadav revealed that preliminary investigations indicate Amit Singh, in collaboration with his associate Gurpreet Singh alias Ginny, was communicating with Pakistan-based smugglers who were pushing weapon consignments to disturb peace and harmony in Punjab. The arrest and recovery have exposed the smuggling network, preventing potential major crimes in the region, with more arrests and recoveries anticipated in the coming days.
Commissioner of Police (CP) Amritsar Gurpreet Singh Bhullar shared that, acting on credible intelligence, a team from Chheharta Police Station, supervised by DCP Detective Ravinderpal Singh, ADCP-2 Harpal Singh, and ACP West Shivdarshan Singh, conducted an operation that led to Amit Singh’s arrest while he was en route to deliver the weapons.
The investigation revealed that the accused received weapon consignments dropped via drones at locations specified by cross-border handlers. Further probes are underway to uncover backward and forward linkages in the case and to identify the intended recipient of the consignment.
A case has been registered under FIR No. 165 dated August 24, 2025, under Section 25 of the Arms Act at Chheharta Police Station in Amritsar.
