Punjab Shines at 12th National Gatka Championship with Boys and Girls Teams Winning Overall Titles

New Delhi, June 15 (Sports Desk)

The three-day 12th National Gatka (Men & Women) Championship, organized by the National Gatka Association of India (NGAI), concluded today at Talkatora Indoor Stadium, New Delhi, featuring enthusiastic participation from over 500 players across men’s and women’s Gatka teams from 14 states.

Chief Guest Justice (Retd.) Talwant Singh, former Delhi High Court Judge, and Guest of Honour Bibi Ranjit Kaur, a member of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee, presented medals and trophies to the winners. In his address, Justice Talwant Singh urged Gatka players to train as professional Gatkebaaz while preserving the cultural and martial heritage of this traditional Sikh martial art. He commended NGAI’s efforts in hosting this grand event and promoting the historic sport both nationally and internationally.

NGAI President Harjeet Singh Grewal expressed gratitude to all participants, guests, and officials for their support in making the championship a resounding success. The event was also attended by Manmohan Singh Jolly, Dr. Tejinder Pal Singh Nalwa, and Sukhchain Singh Kalsani.

Overall Results

  • Girls’ Category: Punjab claimed the overall trophy, with Chandigarh as runner-up and Haryana securing third place.
  • Boys’ Category: Punjab emerged as the overall champion, followed by Chhattisgarh as runner-up and Uttarakhand in third place.

Special Awards

  • Girls’ Section: Ravleen Kaur from Chandigarh was named Best Player, while Harmandeep Kaur from Punjab received the Best Performance award.
  • Boys’ Section: Sharry Singh from Punjab was adjudged Best Player, and Harsimran Singh from Punjab won the Best Performance title.

  • Boys U-14 Single Stick Individual: Gagandeep Singh (Uttarakhand) won gold, Noorpreet Singh took silver, and Mangesh (Maharashtra) and Sukhmanpreet Singh (Punjab) shared bronze.
  • U-14 Single Stick Team: Haryana won gold, Uttarakhand silver, and Chhattisgarh and Chandigarh secured bronze.
  • U-14 Farri Stick Individual: Jagjot Singh (Uttarakhand) claimed gold, Satwant Singh Khalsa (Chandigarh) silver, and Ekamjot Singh and Sukhmanpreet Singh (Punjab) won bronze.
  • U-14 Farri Stick Team: Punjab took gold, Uttarakhand silver, and Chandigarh and Tamil Nadu earned bronze.
  • Boys U-17 Single Stick Individual: Samrath Singh (Chhattisgarh) won gold, Rajvir Singh (Uttarakhand) silver, and Tanveer Singh (Punjab) and Hardeep Singh (Telangana) shared bronze.
  • U-17 Single Stick Team: Punjab won gold, Haryana silver, and Uttarakhand and Delhi bagged bronze.
