Punjab Tehsildar Arrested in Rs. 30,000 Bribery Case

-Sangrur Official and Clerk Accomplice Nabbed; Rs. 1.45 Lakh Cash Recovered in House Raid Amid Mann’s Zero-Tolerance Graft Crackdown

Chandigarh/Patiala, January 1

Kicking off the New Year with a corruption takedown, Punjab’s Vigilance Bureau (VB) has arrested Tehsildar Jagtar Singh from Sangrur district for pocketing a Rs. 30,000 bribe to fast-track a land registry. His clerk accomplice, Malvinder Singh, remains at large but is expected to be hauled in soon, as the bureau’s probe intensifies.

A VB spokesperson revealed the bust stemmed from a tip-off via the Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s anti-corruption helpline, filed by a Mehlan village resident in Sangrur. The complainant alleged he shelled out the illicit sum to the duo at the Sangrur tehsil office to process the paperwork for his recently purchased plot— a classic shakedown in the bureaucratic maze.

A discreet verification confirmed the graft allegations, leading to swift registration of a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act at the VB’s Patiala range. Raids on Jagtar’s residence unearthed Rs. 1.45 lakh in unexplained cash, fueling suspicions of deeper rot.

Investigations are in full swing, with the VB vowing to peel back layers on the pair’s dealings. “This arrest underscores our ironclad zero-tolerance policy—corruption has no safe harbor in Punjab,” the spokesperson affirmed.

In a public call to arms, the bureau urged citizens statewide: “Spot sleaze? Report it. We’re geared to strike hard against every corrupt cog.” Under Mann’s watch, such operations continue to dismantle graft networks, restoring faith in a cleaner administration.
