Punjab’s Success in National Energy Conservation Awards

-Minister Aman Arora Receives Prestigious Award from President Droupadi Murmu

-Government’s Initiatives in Energy Efficiency Lauded Nationally

Chandigarh/New Delhi, December 14

The Punjab government, under Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, has been nationally recognized for its outstanding efforts in energy efficiency and conservation, with the state clinching the second prize in the State Performance Category of the National Energy Conservation Awards 2025.

Punjab’s New and Renewable Energy Resources Minister Aman Arora received the prestigious award from President of India Droupadi Murmu during the ceremony held at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi on National Energy Conservation Day.

Speaking to the media after the event, Arora highlighted that this achievement places Punjab among the country’s top performers in energy efficiency. He credited the Mann-led government’s proactive measures, including the installation of 18,000 solar tubewell pumps in the agriculture sector—with plans to expand further—and 185 energy-efficient motors in the MSME sector, including Verka plants. Additionally, rooftop solar projects totaling 35 MW capacity have been successfully implemented in government buildings.

Arora emphasized energy efficiency in buildings as a critical area for reducing consumption in the commercial sector through efficient designs, materials, and adherence to the Energy Conservation Building Code (ECBC).

He noted that Punjab has pioneered the development and notification of the Punjab Energy Conservation Building Code, tailored for the state’s composite climate zone by amending the national code. Implementation is underway via building bye-laws, with 850 buildings already compliant.

Praising the efforts of the Punjab Energy Development Agency (PEDA) officials, Arora revealed that these initiatives have resulted in savings of 12,000 million units of energy to date.

With rising power demand due to industrial growth and infrastructure expansion, Arora stressed the urgent shift from conventional sources to renewables like solar, hydel, and biomass—not only for efficiency and conservation but also for environmental protection.

Present at the occasion were PEDA CEO Neelima, Administrative Secretary (New and Renewable Resources) Dr. Basant Garg, Additional Director PEDA Jaspal Singh, and Project Engineer Sharad Sharma.
