SA Morne Morkel Appointed as India’s Bowling Coach

Patiala, 15 August (Sports Desk)

South African fast bowling legend Morne Morkel has been appointed as the bowling coach of the Indian cricket team. The decision was made at the request of India’s head coach, Gautam Gambhir, who had previously worked with Morkel at the Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League.

Morkel’s contract will commence from September 1st. He will take charge of the Indian bowling attack for the upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh, starting on September 19th.

A New Coaching Staff

With Rahul Dravid’s tenure as head coach ending after the 2024 T20 World Cup, the BCCI sought a fresh coaching team. Gautam Gambhir was appointed as the new head coach, and he has assembled a support staff that includes:

  • Fielding coach: Rahul Dravid (retained from the previous staff)
  • Bowling coach: Morne Morkel
  • Assistant coaches: Abhishek Nayar and Ryan Ten Doeschate

Morkel’s appointment is expected to bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to the Indian bowling unit. His ability to extract pace and bounce from any surface will be invaluable to the Indian bowlers.
