Amritsar/ Patiala, July 15,

Sri Akal Takht has summoned President Sukhbir Singh Badal, requesting a written response to allegations made by rebel Akali factions. This decision follows a meeting of the Panj Singh Sahibs at the Office Secretariat of Sri Akal Takht Sahib.

Sukhbir Badal has been given 15 days to respond.

On July 1, a group of rebel Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leaders appeared at Akal Takht Sahib, seeking an apology for incidents that occurred between 2007 and 2017 during the SAD’s time in power. The rebels’ letter alleged that the SGPC spent nearly Rs 90 lakh on newspaper advertisements to justify its decisions. However, due to strong public resistance, both the SAD leadership and the SGPC had to reverse their stance.

“According to the complaint received from some senior Shiromani Akali Dal leaders at Sri Akal Takht Sahib, the President of Shiromani Akali Dal did not express the sectarian sentiments. Consequently, the President of Shiromani Akali Dal has been asked to explain the allegations in writing within fifteen days by personally appearing at Sri Akal Takht Sahib. Additionally, an explanation has been sought regarding the Rs 90 lakh worth of advertisements issued by the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee,” read the press statement issued by Sri Akal Takht.
