Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University Empowers New Teachers with Quality Teaching Workshop

Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, in collaboration with the Directorate of Education, SGPC, recently hosted a five-day workshop on Quality Teaching and Learning for newly recruited teachers in SGPC schools.

Equipping Educators: Eighty teachers from across Punjab participated in the intensive workshop, attending fifteen technical sessions. Dr. Harneet Billing, Department of Education head, highlighted the diverse topics covered, including Sikh Educational Philosophy, Educational Psychology, ICT-based Lesson Planning, and Language Skills.

A Call for Excellence: Professor Pritpal Singh, Vice Chancellor of the University, inaugurated the workshop. He emphasized the crucial role of such programs in improving teaching quality and urged participants to embrace child-centered education. He further encouraged the teachers to uphold professional ethics, dedicate themselves to student development, and preserve Sikh values.

  • Dr. Sikander Singh, Head of the Punjabi Department, delivered the first session, focusing on the importance of using mother tongue as a medium of instruction. He discussed current challenges and shared examples of developed nations successfully implementing this approach.
  • Dr. Nirmal Dutt, an English language specialist, outlined a model for using the vernacular language to enhance understanding of English. His sessions, spread over four days, laid the groundwork for a pilot project to help students grasp English fundamentals.

  • Professor Sewak Singh shared his perspectives on Gurbani and Punjabi teaching methods.
