Chandigarh/SAS Nagar (Mohali), November 21

In a significant step towards empowering Punjab’s daughters to join the Indian Armed Forces as commissioned officers, Punjab Employment Generation, Skill Development & Training Minister Aman Arora on Friday inaugurated a dedicated hostel block for the NDA Preparatory Wing at Mai Bhago Armed Forces Preparatory Institute (AFPI) for Girls in SAS Nagar (Mohali).

The new ₹2.46-crore state-of-the-art accommodation facility has been named after India’s first Field Marshal, Sam Manekshaw, who was born in Amritsar, Punjab. The hostel will house 40 girl cadets and provide world-class amenities including a cyber lab, indoor shooting range, and a modern fitness hub, creating an ideal environment for rigorous NDA preparation and overall personality development.

Speaking on the occasion, Aman Arora said the Bhagwant Singh Mann-led Punjab Government is fully committed to providing every possible facility to young women aspiring to serve the nation in uniform. He highlighted that the NDA Preparatory Wing, launched in July 2023, has received an overwhelming response, reflecting the growing ambition of Punjab’s girls to join the officer cadre of the Armed Forces.

The Minister felicitated several lady cadets who have cleared the NDA written examination and those recommended for commission. Special recognition was given to Lady Cadet Sehjaldeep Kaur, who scripted history by topping the SSB interview across India (among both boys and girls) — a first-ever achievement by any female candidate.

Addressing the cadets, Aman Arora said, “We are building launchpads so that the dreams of our daughters can touch the sky. The Mann government is determined to break every glass ceiling. This hostel and the NDA wing are proof that the girls of Punjab are second to none and are destined to lead the nation from the front in the Armed Forces.”

Principal Secretary Employment Generation Alaknanda Dayal, Director Amrit Singh, Director Mai Bhago AFPI Major General Jasbir Singh Sandhu (AVSM, Retd), and other senior officials were present at the inauguration ceremony.
