The Indian Premier League (IPL) has become synonymous with high-scoring thrillers, and the 2024 season witnessed an unprecedented surge in mammoth totals, redefining batting standards. Eight of the top nine highest team scores in IPL history were recorded in 2024, with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) leading the charge.
SRH holds the record for the highest IPL score: a staggering 287/3 against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in 2024. This total is also the highest ever recorded by any T20 franchise globally. After being put in to bat, SRH punished RCB’s decision, coming within striking distance of the 300-run mark. Travis Head smashed a 41-ball 102, and Heinrich Klaasen contributed a blistering 67 off 31 balls. RCB’s valiant chase, featuring rapid scoring from Faf du Plessis, Virat Kohli, and Dinesh Karthik, fell short at 262/7. This is tied for the highest IPL score in a second innings, along with Punjab Kings’ successful chase of 262/2 against Kolkata Knight Riders, also in 2024.

SRH also occupies second place on the highest IPL scores list, having posted 277/3 against Mumbai Indians in 2024. Head (62 off 24 balls) and Abhishek Sharma (63 off 23 balls) got SRH off to a flying start before Klaasen’s unbeaten 80 off 34 deliveries propelled them to their massive total.
SRH features three times in the top four highest IPL scores. Their 266/7 against Delhi Capitals in 2024, fueled by a 131-run opening stand between Head and Sharma, is the fourth-highest total. Delhi Capitals were also on the receiving end when Kolkata Knight Riders posted the third-highest score in IPL history: 272/7 in 2024

IPL 2024 also set a new record for the most 200+ scores in a single season: a remarkable 41 instances. This contrasts sharply with the inaugural IPL season in 2008, which saw the 200-run mark breached just 11 times.
RCB’s previous highest total of 263/5 against Pune Warriors in 2013, powered by Chris Gayle’s unbeaten 175 (the highest individual score in T20 cricket), stood for almost 11 years before SRH surpassed it against Mumbai Indians.
