UAE Athletics Women’s Gala 2025: Karishma Sanil Claims Javelin Title, Indian Athletes Shine

Dubai, UAE – At the UAE Athletics Women’s Gala 2025 held on Mother’s Day at Dubai Police Club Stadium, India’s Karishma Sanil clinched the women’s javelin throw title, while Ancy Sojan and Shaili Singh secured podium finishes in the long jump on Sunday, May 11, 2025.
Javelin Throw: Karishma Sanil Triumphs
Karishma Sanil, 24, dominated the three-woman javelin field with a winning throw of 53.33m. UAE’s Aliazya Tarek took second with 31.04m, followed by India’s Harshita Sehrawat at 16.77m. Sanil’s personal best stands at 55.55m, while the Indian national record of 63.82m is held by Asian Games champion Annu Rani.

Long Jump: Ancy Sojan and Shaili Singh Shine
In the women’s long jump, Asian Games silver medallist Ancy Sojan secured second place with a season-best leap of 6.54m. Shaili Singh, an Asian Championships silver medallist, claimed third with 6.48m. The event was won by Arab Games champion Esraa Owis with a jump of 6.66m. Ancy’s personal best is 6.71m, and Shaili’s is 6.76m, while Anju Bobby George holds India’s national record of 6.83m.
Both athletes also competed at the UAE Grand Prix 2025 on Friday at the same venue, where Shaili earned silver with 6.44m and Ancy took bronze with 6.33m.
Other Indian Performances
- 200m: Moumita Mondal clocked 24.61s to finish second, behind South Africa’s Tamzin Thomas (24.15s).
- Triple Jump: Niharika Vashisht achieved a personal best of 13.58m to take third, while Sawant Poorva placed fourth with 12.98m. South Africa’s Zinzi Xulu (13.75m) and Romania’s Andreea Talos (13.64m) topped the event.
