Patiala , 5 December
Even after not receiving salaries for the past eight months, hundreds of teachers and staff from Punjab’s aided schools stand fully committed to democracy and are enthusiastically prepared to perform their duties in the upcoming Panchayat Samiti and Zila Parishad elections across the state.
Provincial leaders of the Punjab Aided School Teachers & Other Employees Union — Ashwani Madan, Harvinder Pal, and Anil — stated that although the Punjab government continues to adopt a highly step-motherly attitude towards aided schools, and salaries (Grant-in-Aid) of hundreds of employees in nearly 1,700 aided institutions have been stopped since April 2025, these teachers have not let financial hardship weaken their faith in democracy.

“When the Election Commission assigned election duties to hundreds of aided school employees for the Panchayat Samiti and Zila Parishad polls, they accepted the responsibility with full dedication and a smile, seeing it as service to the nation,” the leaders said.
The union strongly condemned the Punjab government’s policies that have pushed thousands of aided school employees into severe financial distress. They demanded the immediate release of all pending salaries of teachers and non-teaching staff, recognising the immense contribution these 1,700+ employees have made towards raising the standard of education in Punjab.
The union appealed to the government: “Without finding any fault on the part of these employees, their legitimately earned salaries have been withheld for eight months. We urge the government to immediately clear all arrears so that these dedicated teachers and staff can serve both education and democracy without the burden of financial uncertainty.”
