Vinay’s Triumph: A Gold Medal Journey in Para Powerlifting

Cairo, Egypt | October 11 (Sports Desk)
India’s rising para powerlifting star Vinay brought glory to the nation by clinching the gold medal in the 72kg junior category on the second day of the Para Powerlifting World Championship 2025 in Cairo, Egypt.

Performance Highlights

Vinay delivered an outstanding performance, lifting 137kg, 142kg, and 147kg across his three attempts. Although his final lift of 147kg was ruled invalid by the referees, his second successful lift of 142kg secured the gold, narrowly defeating Poland’s Mikolaj Kosiubinski, who lifted 141kg. Ecuador’s Sebastian F. claimed the bronze with a 137kg lift.

This marks Vinay’s second major international triumph, following his gold medal in the 59kg junior category at the Para Powerlifting World Cup 2024 in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, where he lifted 120kg.

Journey of Resilience

Hailing from a modest background in Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, where his father earns a living as a daily wage laborer, Vinay’s journey is a testament to courage and determination. His talent was spotted by Coach J.P. Singh during a state-level competition, and under Singh’s mentorship, Vinay transformed his raw potential into world-class performances.

This gold medal not only adds to India’s pride but also strengthens Vinay’s prospects for qualification for the Los Angeles Paralympics 2028.
