PATIALA, 13 JANUARY (Sports Desk)
Afghanistan has announced its 15-member squad, plus traveling reserves, for their debut appearance at the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy 2025.
Hashmatullah Shahidi will captain Afghanistan in this historic campaign. The team enters the tournament on the back of impressive performances at the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 and their semi-final appearance at last year’s Men’s T20 World Cup.

A significant boost for the squad is the return of Ibrahim Zadran, who has recovered from an ankle injury sustained last year. He will open the batting alongside the explosive Rahmanullah Gurbaz, followed by Rahmat Shah and captain Shahidi, forming a formidable top order.

The bowling attack is strengthened by star spinner Rashid Khan, veteran all-rounder Mohammad Nabi, and pace spearhead Fazalhaq Farooqi.
A notable absence is Mujeeb-Ur-Rahman, a key member of their 2023 World Cup squad. ACB interim chief selector Ahmad Suliman Khil explained that Mujeeb was unavailable for selection due to medical advice to focus on T20s for a period to aid his full recovery before returning to ODIs. This was also the reason for his absence from the recent ODI series against Zimbabwe.
