₹460 Crore Tourism Boost: Mahindra + SSB to Build Resort, Hotel & Punjab’s Largest Convention Centre
Chandigarh, March 3,
Punjab Industries & Commerce Minister Sanjeev Arora today announced a major ₹460 crore investment in the state’s hospitality and tourism sector through a joint venture between SSB Group and Mahindra Holidays & Resorts India Limited (a part of the Mahindra Group). This marks Mahindra Holidays’ maiden entry into Punjab.
The project is poised to create around 700 direct and indirect employment opportunities, providing a significant boost to the local economy, particularly in the Amritsar region.
Project Breakdown:
- ₹300 crore for a premium resort development.
- ₹50 crore for the region’s largest-ever convention centre, spanning 90,000 sq. ft.
- ₹110 crore for a hotel project near the iconic Golden Temple in Amritsar.
The resort and convention centre will be built on approximately 15 acres at Village Khasa on the Wagah Road in Amritsar.
SSB Group’s Strong Footprint in Amritsar: SSB Group already operates three established hotel properties in Amritsar with a combined capacity of around 120 rooms:
- Hotel Fortune Ranjit Vihar
- Regenta Inn
- Regenta Central
This collaboration builds on SSB’s existing hospitality expertise in the city.
Major Boost for Tourism and MICE: The state-of-the-art 90,000 sq. ft. convention centre will elevate Punjab’s MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, Exhibitions) capabilities. Given Amritsar’s status as a premier spiritual and heritage destination, the facility is expected to attract large-scale national and international events, destination weddings, corporate conventions, and more—positioning the city as a top-tier hub for business and leisure tourism.
