Chandigarh, May 16
The State Election Commission, Punjab, has appointed IAS and senior PCS officers as General Observers across all 23 districts to ensure the smooth, free, fair and peaceful conduct of the Municipal General Elections scheduled for May 26, 2026 (Tuesday).
The elections will be held for 08 Municipal Corporations, 76 Municipal Councils and 21 Nagar Panchayats across the state, covering a total of 105 urban local bodies.
According to the Commission, the appointment of senior administrative officers as General Observers is an additional measure to strengthen transparency, accountability and effective monitoring during the election process.
