Chandigarh, March 7
In its continued crackdown on corruption, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) today arrested Drug Inspector Ramandeep Gupta, posted at the FDA Drug Wing in Sri Muktsar Sahib, red-handed while accepting a bribe of ₹1,00,000.
A VB spokesperson announced the arrest, stating it followed a complaint lodged by a resident of Bathinda.
The complainant is the Director of Redinex Life Sciences Private Limited, a Bathinda-based company manufacturing allopathic medicines since 2020. According to the complaint, the accused Drug Inspector raided and sealed the company premises. The complainant alleged that the Drug Inspector demanded a monthly bribe of ₹2 lakh in exchange for unsealing and allowing the company to resume operations.

Refusing to pay the illegal gratification, the complainant approached the Vigilance Bureau’s Bathinda range office. Following a preliminary inquiry, the VB team laid a trap and apprehended the accused red-handed while he was accepting the first installment of ₹1,00,000 from the complainant, in the presence of two official witnesses.
A case has been registered against the accused under the Prevention of Corruption Act at the VB Police Station, Bathinda. The investigation is ongoing.
