Chandigarh, March 7
In its continued crackdown on corruption across Punjab, the Vigilance Bureau (VB) today caught Senior Assistant Davinder Singh, posted at the CRC branch of the SSP office in Barnala, accepting a bribe of ₹10,000.
A VB spokesperson announced the arrest, stating that it followed a complaint from a resident of Dangarh village in Barnala district.
The complainant, an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI), had applied for an extension in his service. He alleged that the accused demanded ₹10,000 as a bribe in exchange for assisting with the approval of his extension.
Refusing to pay the illegal amount, the ASI approached the Vigilance Bureau’s Patiala range office. Following a preliminary inquiry into the complaint, the VB team set up a trap.
