PSPCL Accountant Caught Red-Handed Taking ₹15,000 Bribe, Vigilance Bureau Strikes

Continuing its drive against corruption in Punjab, the Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) has arrested an accountant posted as In-charge of the Accounts Branch at PSPCL Division, Gurdaspur, while allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹15,000.

Disclosing this today, an official spokesperson of the Vigilance Bureau said that the accused, identified as Amritpal Singh, was apprehended based on a complaint filed by a resident of Islamabad, Gurdaspur.

According to the complainant, he had retired from PSPCL as a Junior Engineer, and his post-retirement dues, including arrears of dearness allowance and pay fixation benefits, were pending with the department. To secure the release of these payments, he approached the accused accountant.

The complainant alleged that Amritpal Singh demanded a bribe of ₹15,000 to process and clear his pending dues. He further stated that the accused had been harassing him for nearly one and a half years. The complainant also recorded the conversation in which the bribe demand was allegedly made.

Refusing to pay the illegal gratification, the complainant approached the Vigilance Bureau, Amritsar Range. Acting swiftly on the complaint, the VB team laid a trap and caught the accused red-handed while accepting the bribe amount of ₹15,000 in the presence of two official witnesses.

A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the accused at the Vigilance Bureau Police Station, Amritsar. Further investigation into the matter is currently underway.
