Chandigarh, August 6

The Indian Medical Association (IMA), Chandigarh, has extended its full support to the concerns raised by the IMA Headquarters and IMA Maharashtra over the Maharashtra Government Resolution (GR) issued on August 3, 2026, permitting CCMP-certified BHMS practitioners to be registered with the Maharashtra Medical Council (MMC).

IMA Chandigarh President Dr. Anil Kumar said the association firmly endorses the stand taken by the IMA Headquarters and IMA Maharashtra. He stated that any decision which blurs the distinction between different systems of medicine or allows dual registration without proper statutory approval could have serious implications for both the medical profession and public healthcare. He further asserted that the government’s decision to register BHMS practitioners with the MMC is illegal, as the matter is currently sub judice.

Former National Vice President of the Indian Medical Association, Dr. Ramneek Singh Bedi, said the move raises serious concerns about patient safety, quality of healthcare, and ethical medical practice. He emphasized that every medical practitioner must practice only within the system of medicine for which they are formally qualified, trained, and registered.

He added that any weakening of established regulatory standards could create confusion among patients, erode public confidence in the healthcare system, and undermine the principles of medical education, professional accountability, and ethical practice.

IMA Chandigarh has urged the Maharashtra Government to reconsider the Government Resolution in the larger interest of patient safety and to uphold the standards of medical education and professional regulation across the country. The association also reaffirmed its unwavering support for the IMA Headquarters in protecting ethical medical practice and preserving the integrity of modern medicine.
