Patiala, 25 March (Manmohan Singh)
In human society, there are certain captivating personalities who can be compared to a grand perfume showroom. Their multifaceted qualities are so enchanting and diverse that they are nearly impossible to fully grasp, and at times, even counting them becomes a challenge. For instance, when we visit a large perfume showroom, whether we purchase something or not, we inevitably leave with the lingering fragrance of the scents. This analogy perfectly fits Engineer Inderpal Singh, an individual appointed by the Punjab Government as the Director (Operations) of Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) for a two-year term.
Engineer Inderpal Singh was born on July 22, 1967, in Guru Ki Nagri, Sri Amritsar, to father Gurpreet Singh and mother Smt. Surjit Kaur. He completed his matriculation from Shri Guru Harkrishan Public School, Amritsar, and pursued pre-engineering studies at Khalsa College, Amritsar. He graduated with a degree in Electrical Engineering (with honors) from Guru Nanak Engineering College, Ludhiana. In 1991, he began his career with the Punjab State Electricity Board (now PSPCL) as an Assistant Engineer (AE), dedicating himself to serving Punjab’s electricity consumers and the general public. Over a remarkable 35-year career, he has served in various critical wings of PSPCL, including Operations, Enforcement, and Commercial divisions, holding diverse positions while consistently contributing to the organization’s greater interests and elevating its reputation.
During his tenure as Deputy Chief Engineer in the Operations Circle, Kapurthala, he ensured uninterrupted and reliable power supply for 24 hours during the 550th birth anniversary celebrations of Guru Nanak Dev Ji. In March 2023, he was promoted to Chief Engineer (Hydel). He also served as Chief Engineer (Operations) in the Central Zone and Chief Engineer (Enforcement) at PSPCL, launching vigorous campaigns to curb electricity theft across Punjab.
The author has personally known Engineer Inderpal Singh since 2010. The two worked closely together as part of the editorial management team for a coffee table book published by PSPCL, documenting the history and achievements of Punjab’s power sector. Upon his appointment as Director (Operations), Engineer Inderpal Singh expressed heartfelt gratitude to Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann and Power Minister Harbhajan Singh. He pledged to remain committed to providing uninterrupted and sustainable electricity to all consumers in Punjab, vowing to continue his relentless efforts in this direction.
Beyond his professional achievements as an engineer, Inderpal Singh is also a theatre artist. He is part of the approved artist list at Doordarshan Kendra, Jalandhar, and his performances in several popular Punjabi serials reflect a blend of artistry reminiscent of the late, renowned theatre artist Shri Jaspal Bhatti. Additionally, he has contributed to humanity by donating blood on multiple occasions and has been honored by government and social organizations for his efforts in public welfare.
His father, Gurpreet Singh, was a PCS officer, and his mother, Surjit Kaur, served as a school lecturer. His wife Baljeet Kaur, is a government teacher currently serving in Jalandhar. Their daughter, Dr. Annureet, is pursuing higher education in the United States after completing her MBBS, while their son, Gurnoor Singh, earned a degree in Computer Engineering from Thapar College, Patiala, and is now working at a company in Pune.
Engineer Inderpal Singh’s life is a testament to his versatility—balancing a stellar career, artistic passion, and a commitment to social good—leaving an indelible mark wherever he goes, much like the fragrance that lingers after visiting a perfume showroom.
