In a groundbreaking move, the Punjab government has announced that acid attack victims will now receive a monthly financial assistance of ₹10,000 under the newly revamped “Punjab Financial Assistance Scheme for Acid Attack Victims-2024.” The scheme, previously limited to women, has been made gender-neutral, ensuring that male and transgender victims can also benefit from this initiative.
Dr. Baljit Kaur, Punjab’s Minister for Social Security, Women, and Child Development, highlighted this unique step taken by the state government. She expressed gratitude to Chief Minister S. Bhagwant Singh Mann and his cabinet for their visionary decision, emphasizing that this reform reflects the government’s unwavering commitment to equality, justice, and social empowerment.

Increased Financial Support for Victims
Under the updated scheme, the monthly financial assistance for acid attack victims has been increased from ₹8,000 to ₹10,000. This enhancement aims to provide greater financial stability and support to victims in their journey toward recovery and rehabilitation.
The original scheme, launched on June 20, 2017, was initially designed to assist only women acid attack victims with a monthly aid of ₹8,000. However, recognizing the need for inclusivity and equal treatment, the Punjab government has broadened its scope to include male and transgender victims as well.
