Patiala, September 13
Patiala MLA Ajitpal Kohli today initiated the construction of major roads in Patiala city, costing approximately ₹6 crore, starting from Rajpura Colony near the old bus stand. Speaking on the occasion, he announced that the reconstruction of roads dug up by L&T for laying canal water supply pipelines will now proceed at a rapid pace following the monsoon season, with completion expected soon.
MLA Kohli highlighted that Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann is personally overseeing the comprehensive development of Patiala, closely monitoring progress on various projects. He noted that the ₹6 crore project to construct the road from Government Rajindra Hospital to the Big River Bridge has been launched, which will greatly benefit city residents.

Addressing the media, Kohli stated that the monsoon season, which extended from June to September, delayed road construction due to continuous rainfall. With the weather now clear, the urgent task of rebuilding Patiala’s roads has begun, starting with the stretch from the old bus stand to the Big River Bridge. He further announced that work on the city’s internal roads will commence next week.
Acknowledging the inconvenience faced by residents due to the prolonged monsoon and delayed roadwork, MLA Kohli apologized, expressing regret for the hardships endured. He explained that roads were dug up to lay pipelines for 24/7 canal water supply, but construction has now been expedited in areas where pipeline work is complete. Kohli assured that strict instructions have been issued to relevant department officials to ensure the quality of the roads being built.
Present at the event were SDM Patiala Harjot Kaur, Executive Engineer Vineet Singla, Ward 48 Councillor Rajesh Kumar (Raju), Ward 49 Councillor Sanjeev Kumar, and local residents.
