Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Ajitpal Singh Kohli expressed deep disappointment and shock at the actions of Biba Jai Inder Kaur, accusing her of stooping to a low level of politics to shield drug traffickers and illegal encroachers for personal gain. Kohli criticized her for aligning with those involved in drug peddling and unauthorized occupations, calling it a betrayal of public trust.

Kohli stated, “I was disheartened to learn that Biba Jai Inder Kaur has degraded her politics to an unprecedented low. I expected her to remain loyal to the people, but she is now defending drug peddlers and encroachers to polish her political image.” He questioned why Kaur remained silent during previous anti-drug operations in Patiala, particularly when her father, former Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, failed to curb the drug menace despite promising to eradicate it within three weeks. Kohli accused Kaur of following the same path, ignoring the state’s welfare.

Kohli highlighted the state government’s ongoing crackdown on drug peddlers and illegal encroachments, particularly targeting those occupying public parks and roads built with taxpayer money. He noted that the areas in question were plagued by drug-related crimes, robberies, and thefts, making them unsafe for residents after dusk. “Families in these areas lived in fear of harm or loss. The government’s actions target only those involved in drugs and encroachments, not any community,” he clarified.

Critique of Opposition’s Track Record
The MLA challenged Kaur to reveal her contributions to curbing the drug trade during her party’s tenure, accusing her of protecting offenders. He pointed out that during Captain Amarinder Singh’s regime, the drug trade flourished, ruining Punjab’s youth. Kohli contrasted this with AAP’s efforts, stating, “Instead of applauding our work to save Patiala’s youth, you’re making excuses to politicize it.”
He further noted that two former municipal councillors, Binni Nagpal and Anuj Khosla, had testified against drug peddlers, underscoring the issue’s severity. Kohli accused Kaur of falsely framing the government’s actions as targeting the SC community, clarifying that the operations focus solely on criminals, not any specific group. “The SC community resides in areas like Dhiru Nagar, Lahori Gate, Astabal, and Bandugar, and the government has never harassed them. We stand with the SC community,” he affirmed.

Kohli urged Kaur to rise above divisive politics and support the government’s efforts to eradicate drugs and restore public safety. “If you cannot contribute positively to Patiala, at least don’t obstruct the good work being done. Stop ruining the youth for votes,” he said, emphasizing that residents of Patiala and surrounding areas are pleased with the government’s actions.
