Anmol Kharb and Satish Karunakaran secured gold medals in women’s and men’s singles badminton, respectively, at the National Games 2025 in Uttarakhand.
Anmol Kharb, an 18-year-old rising star from Haryana, defeated top seed Anupama Upadhyaya (world No. 43) in straight games (21-16, 22-20) in the women’s singles final held at the Multi-Purpose Hall in Dehradun. Kharb, who won the nationals at 16 in 2023, gained prominence last year for her crucial role in India’s historic gold medal win at the 2024 Badminton Asia Team Championships. Her recent victories at the Belgian and Polish Internationals, along with a runner-up finish at the Guwahati Masters Super 100, further highlight her impressive trajectory. She had previously defeated another experienced player, Tasnim Mir, in the semi-finals.

In men’s singles, top seed Satish Karunakaran overcame a strong challenge from 16-year-old Suryaksh Rawat, winning the final 21-17, 21-17. Home state favorite and star shuttler Lakshya Sen had withdrawn from the competition on Monday.
Karunakaran also achieved double gold, winning the mixed doubles title with partner Aadya Variyath. They defeated Deep Rambhiya and Akshaya Warang 21-11, 20-22, 21-8 in the final.
The men’s doubles gold went to Nithin HV and Prakash Raj S, who beat Vaibhav and Ashith Surya 21-16, 21-14.
In women’s doubles, Karnataka’s Shikha Gautam and Ashwini Bhat claimed gold with a dominant 21-11, 21-13 victory over Angel Punera and Anya Bisht. Sources and related content
