
Chandigarh, July 27
The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) on Friday arrested Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Gurpreet Singh, posted at Sadar police station in Dhuri, Sangrur district, for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 1,10,000.
According to a VB spokesperson, the arrest followed a complaint by Gurdeep Singh of Rajomajra village in Sangrur district. Gurdeep alleged that ASI Gurpreet had demanded a bribe of Rs 1,50,000 to settle a case against his in-laws, but the amount was negotiated down to Rs 1,10,000.

The VB laid a trap and caught the ASI red-handed while accepting the bribe from the complainant in the presence of witnesses. A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered at VB police station in Patiala, and further investigations are underway.
This arrest highlights the VB’s ongoing efforts to combat corruption within the state.
