BATHINDA MURDER CASE: PUNJAB POLICE ARRESTS FOUR MEMBERS OF GURPREET SEKHON GANG, RECOVERS PISTOL

CHANDIGARH, February 15:

In a significant breakthrough aligned with Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s vision of making Punjab a safe and secure state, the Anti Gangster Task Force (AGTF) of Punjab Police has arrested four members of the notorious Gurpreet Sekhon Gang for their involvement in the sensational murder of Overseer Singh alias Satinder Singh alias Satti . A .32 bore pistol along with six cartridges was recovered from their possession, announced Director General of Police (DGP) Punjab Gaurav Yadav on Saturday.

Details of the Arrests

The arrested individuals have been identified as:

  • Gurpreet Singh alias Gopi , resident of village Selbrah, Bathinda
  • Lovejeet Sharma alias Lavi , resident of village Bhai Rupa, Bathinda
  • Vinod Kumar alias Skill Sharma , resident of village Bhai Rupa, Bathinda
  • Gagandeep Singh , resident of Bhagta Bhaika, Bathinda

In addition to recovering the weapon, police teams also seized their white Hyundai Verna car bearing registration number PB 03 BH 7724 .

Background of the Case

According to investigations, Overseer Singh , a known history sheeter from village Bhai Rupa in Bathinda, was shot dead at his native village by his neighbor and associates due to personal enmity. The incident occurred at approximately 4:00 AM on February 5, 2025 . Despite being rushed to the Civil Hospital, Bathinda , Overseer Singh was declared brought dead by doctors.

Criminal History of the Accused

DGP Gaurav Yadav stated that preliminary investigations revealed the arrested individuals have a long criminal history , with multiple cases registered against them under charges such as murder, attempt to murder, and violations of the Arms Act , among others.

“The accused are part of a larger network involved in organized crime, and we are committed to dismantling these networks completely,” said the DGP. He added that further investigations are underway to identify additional individuals involved, and more arrests are likely in the coming days.

Operational Details

Sharing further insights, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) AGTF Promod Ban stated that following the murder of Overseer Singh, the AGTF launched a targeted operation to trace and apprehend the perpetrators.

  • Gurpreet Singh alias Gopi and Vinod Kumar alias Skill Sharma were arrested from Dhanaula, Barnala .
  • Gagandeep Singh and Lovejeet Sharma alias Lovy were apprehended from TPT College Rampura Phul, Bathinda .

Legal Proceedings

A case has been registered under FIR No. 11 dated February 5, 2025 , at Police Station Phul, Bathinda , under the following sections:

  • Sections 125 and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS)
  • Sections 25 and 27 of the Arms Act
