Jay Shah, Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), announced on social media that the board is introducing prize money for the Player of the Match and Player of the Tournament in all women’s and junior cricket tournaments. Additionally, prize money will be awarded for the Player of the Match in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy for senior men.
This initiative aims to recognize and reward outstanding performances in domestic cricket. Shah expressed gratitude to the Apex Council for supporting this effort.
This is not the first time under Shah’s leadership that the BCCI has taken steps to boost domestic cricket. Last year, the board increased prize money for domestic tournaments, with the Ranji Trophy winner receiving a cash prize of ₹5 crore. The prize money for the Irani Cup was also doubled, with the winners receiving ₹50 lakh and the runners-up ₹25 lakh.

Similar increases were made for the Duleep Trophy, Vijay Hazare Trophy, and Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Furthermore, the BCCI made it mandatory for players to participate in domestic cricket.
Previously, Shah had taken a significant step towards women’s empowerment by ensuring that women cricketers received salaries equal to their male counterparts.
These consistent efforts by the BCCI reflect a commitment to developing domestic cricket and providing better opportunities for players.
