Australian opener Beth Mooney has been awarded the ICC Women’s Player of the Month for January 2025, recognizing her outstanding performances during the multi-format Ashes series against England. Mooney beat out strong competition from West Indies spinner Karishma Ramharack and India Under-19 star Trisha Gongadi for the award.
This is Mooney’s first ICC Player of the Month award, and the second consecutive win for an Australian woman, following Annabel Sutherland’s win in December 2024.
“It’s an honour to be named the ICC Women’s Player of the Month and I’d like to thank everyone who voted for me,” Mooney said. “January was an incredible month for the Australian Women’s Cricket Team. Winning the Ashes in front of a home crowd was very special and to complete the series playing in the first ever day-night Test at the MCG in front of a record crowd for a Women’s Test is a moment that we will all never forget. This team continues to achieve amazing results, and I am so proud to be a part of it.”
Mooney was in excellent form during the ODI and T20I series against England, particularly shining in the shortest format. She scored two fifties in the T20Is, including an unbeaten 94, as Australia swept the series 3-0. Mooney was named Player of the Match in both the first and final T20Is and was the leading run-scorer in the T20I series.
Beyond her batting, Mooney also contributed strongly as a wicketkeeper, taking three catches and completing a stumping while deputizing for Alyssa Healy.
